For any business sector, there will be peak seasons and there will be slow seasons.
But for France, the construction market has been stagnant for a prolonged period of time.
That’s ironic simply because the overall economic growth in the euro zone’s second largest economy has been on an uptick so far this year.
However, France’s economic weak spot lies within the construction industry, according to statistics released this week by statistics agency Insee.
The problems has prompted President François Hollande’s government to slash its growth forecasts and rethink its entire economic and fiscal program.
Construction accounts for around 7% of employment in France.
In addition to that, production in the sector fell 1.5% in the second quarter.
But that’s not all: Investment in construction dropped further still, down 2.1%.
