There’s a long list of successful company founders and CEOs, such as FedEx’s Fred Smith, Exxon’s Lawrence G. Rawl, Taco Bell’s Glen Bell and more, who attribute their leadership to principles learned in the Marine Corps, and now thanks to those principles the Director of Texas-based Expert Heavy Equipment (EHE) has been added to the list.
“It is the extensive leadership training that I received during my active and reserve time with the United States Marine Corps that has directly impacted and attributed to the company’s success,” said Milissa Wise, director of operations for EHE.
It is the only company that is female Marine veteran owned within this industry.
Wise went on to point out that Marines are known as “The Few. The Proud.” The reason for that is because there are only 194,000 active and reserve in the Marine Corps, versus 1.4M in the Army.
Only 6.2 percent of those Marines are female.
“The Marine Corps leadership training is world-renowned,” Wise stressed, before adding, “So it only makes sense that each representative of this company be familiar and implement these successful traits into daily business practices. There are three books that are required reading, No Yelling: The 9 Secrets of Marine Corps Leadership You Must Know to Win in Business, Semper Fi: Business Leadership the Marine Corps Way, Corps Business: The 30 Management Principles of the U.S. Marines. Beginning September 2014, we intend to have weekly meetings where we will discuss theses leadership principles and share ideas on how to successfully incorporate them into our daily, weekly and monthly objectives.”
When it comes to her company utilizing Marine Corps leadership principles to lead in business, Wise noted that EHE is the most competitive wholesaler of used heavy construction equipment.
EHE, the spokeswoman added, is in the business of helping those in the construction industry receive the most the their money, regardless of if they’re buying or selling used heavy equipment.
“There is no question that the Marine Corps leadership traits are what have made myself and this company successful,” Wise said. “When you feel like you have hit those mental and physical roadblocks, you remember you have the endurance and the courage to continue.”
Wise revealed that as a Marine you learn the importance of integrity, loyalty and judgment.
“When you earn the title of Marine, you are empowered; you never doubt yourself,” Wise said. “You take initiative and act decisively. Because you are no longer accountable to just yourself, you learn to be selfless and dependable. You enthusiastically conduct yourself with honor, bearing and tact. It is all of these traits that differentiate Marines and differentiate Expert Heavy Equipment amongst our peers. And that is why it is important to ensure everyone in this company shares the same philosophy and business practice.”
EHEs goals are to become the go-to resource for buyers and sellers alike, by offering the best pricing possible along with valuable market information. In addition, their long term goal is to become an industry leader by changing the traditional business model with their on demand inventory.
